I have an enormous amount of love for street art. I seek it out when traveling, searching for the best walls on the best streets. According to the internet, today’s modern street art has origins in New York City’s graffiti boom- which began in the 1960s and peaked with subway car murals in the 1980s. What began as a sign of anti-establishment protest has morphed into a socially accepted and respected form of art in most places. It’s grown in popularity and now provides neighborhoods and cities a tool to create brighter, more inspiring communities. I suppose that’s what it attracts it to me the most. It’s the juxtaposition of the harsh concrete, sometimes in a state of disrepair, with the vibrancy of colorful lines and shapes.

I’ve seen some amazing street art in my travels. I have a convinced my friends to wander down random side streets in cities attempting to see the walls around the next block. My recent favorites clusters of art can be seen in Isla Holbox and Cartagena. In both locations, these walls are all right around the corner from one another, making it easy to do a quick tour.
